Three Tips to Drink More Water

More than likely, you’re not like me…sipping on water constantly through out the day, always has water on me, drinking it like a habit. *takes sip If you are like this, you probably don’t need the tips in this post. So, maybe you’ve been trying to drink more water, but it’s just not working for you. I am going to share 3 tips that can help increase your likelihood in drinking more BUT FIRST, ask yourself…“why is drinking more water important to me?”

TIP NUMBER ONE- Buy yourself a cool water bottle
You are 99.9% more likely to drink water if it’s in a cool cup or bottle. I just made that number up, but I’m sure it’s pretty close to being true. You can be fancy and get a high tech bottle that syncs to your phone, or maybe get one that you put fun stickers on, or you ramp up the motivation getting a jug with checkpoints through out the day. Whatever it is, find one that makes you smile. Bonus: you’ll be reducing waste from using plastic water bottles and you won’t have to clean out a bunch of half drank ones from your car. (am I wrong?)

TIP NUMBER TWO- Set reminders!
This one is most important. If drinking water isn’t a habit to you yet, you need to make it one by creating reminders. This can be an alarm on your phone, a buzz on your watch, or even an Alexa reminder. You can write little sticky notes, but after the first couple days, you will end up overlooking these. How often you set an alarm or reminder is up to you. Having this nudge will support your goal!

TIP NUMBER THREE- Time your drinking with your bathroom breaks
This one is a little tricky, but could potentially be helpful if you’re a teacher or work in a job where you can’t take many bathroom breaks. One of the biggest barriers to drinking more water is the frequent restroom trips. What if you were able to sync your drinking with times you knew you could take a bathroom break? Try experimenting with drinking a glass of water and time how long after finishing it that you have to go. From there you could be more strategic in when you sip if this is an area of concern
