Myofascial release is helpful to increase mobility and range of motion, help improve muscle imbalances, and will improve your workouts. It works by self-massaging the fascia/tissue surrounding the muscles. This can be done at anytime. I like to do it before a workout to loosen up or during a stretching session. This is a recommendation but always use your own discretion.
